I live in a townhome and listened negative things about humidifier like
– If we use more humidifier it creates mold
– If we don’t use humidifier then it makes air dry
Can you explain what that means and effects of each and in a day how many hours I should put humidifier on?

I currently have a drum style humidifier on my forced air system. I’ve been told that a flow through design might be a better choice. Before I spend money on one can someone give me some insights? Thanks.

It’s so dry in my dorm room that my eyes are swollen and itchy, which makes my nose run and makes me feel miserable! I’ve tried opening up my window, and that helps a little bit. Is there anything else I can do to make it not so dry in here? I don’t have access to air conditioning or a humidifier.

If yes, is it the same way for cold-mist humidifier as well, or not?

I have a humidifier, but the air in my apartment is still dry. What can I do to resolve this? Someone suggested putting a pot of water on my radiator – is this safe? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Not sure if the extra humidity will affect the air purifier. It is a hepa filter type of purifier. Trying to keep the allergens out and also humidify the air because it is really dry right now and i wake up with a really dry throat the past few days.
I’m using distilled water for the humidifier.

Over the years I have tried multiple models of high end humidifiers (Venta, Honeywell, Vornado) and have followed the cleaning/ filter changing instructions diligently. Within a short while it seems the humidifiers emit a moldy or mildewy smell. I can’t tell exactly what we’re breathing but it’s just not fresh. Is this safe? Is it par for the course and worth the benefit of more humid air in the winter? Now we have a little one and certainly don’t want to be putting pollutants in our home.

I am hoping to get a chemist’s opinion, or the opinion of someone who had studied whatever branch of science related to this problem.
Our baby had a cold and I wanted her nasal passages to clear up so we bought a humidifier. This was one week ago. My husband told me that after using the humidifier, the room smelled like paint, but I just ignored him. I did smell something but I thought it was more of a cedar woodchip smell and thought that it was maybe coming from some of the furniture because of the humidity. Four days after buying the humidifier, the baby developed a cough. I used the humidifier even more and one night I woke up with a bad sinus headache (and I never, ever get headaches) and I did sense that there was something toxic to the air. I unplugged the humidifier and the baby woke up soon after and held her head as if her head hurt and cried. At that point I hadn’t put one and one together yet but now I am thinking that she had a headache because of fumes in the room.
The paint in question was CIL low VOC paint. It had been applied six months previous. My husband always said that that paint was worse than regular paint because it never really fully dried. I am wondering if the low voc paint could be affected by a humidifier, causing some fumes to leach into the room.

I need a 26" x 20" x 5" media air filter and a humidifier pad for a Honeywell Enviracare 225A whole house humidifier. I have been unsuccessful at finding these at my local home Depot and Wal Mart.

my 10 week old always wakes up with a stuffy nose. I’m pretty sure it is from the dry air in the apartment. (my nose is very dry too since he’s been home from the hospital since the heat has been cranked up and i’m home all day).
I was going to get a humidifier, but i have no idea what the difference is between cool mist and warm mist. Which do I get?

I live in a really dry climate and have really dry skin so I just started using a humidifier in my house. I have heard that they can put mold out in the air if you don’t clean them well enough. What is the best way to clean them? Any other opinions?

I have a Vick’s humidifier that i use in my baby’s room. When i first started using it i noticed white mineral build up on the heating element. So i went out and bought a protec antimicrobial cleaning cartridge. It’s just a little ball that sits in the water tank. Ever since i’ve been using that the white mineral build up has turned orange. (I’ve cleaned out the humidifier everyday) And no matter what i do i cant get it off. I tried a bleach and vinegar solution and nothing has worked. I was wondering if there is anything harmful in the deposits that could get into the air and make my son sick?

My mother in law has a concrete home and is looking for a air washer that she could use to clean up the air inside the house. She is not really wanting a purifier but a system that could wash the dust out of the air. Would a humidifier work for that purpose?

bedroom. My skin is really drying out from the indoor heating while I sleep. My objective is to add moisture into the air. Which brand humidifier should I buy that’s decent but not too expensiver? Also, will a vaporiser do that same thing? Thank you.

Lately weve been having alot of coughs, dry throats, sinus issues and dont know if were sick , allergies or issues with our home. I thought this morning maybe its our heat so I went and looked at the forced heat unit and noticed that the humidifier was not dripping water. I even removed the drain hose and it was completely dry so it hasnt worked in some time. It was raining outside and the temps outside are around 50s to upper 60s so should it be on or is it broken? Any tips would be helpful.

i have terrible allergies and i am always sick. i was thinking about getting an air purifier or a humidifier but im not sure which would be best for me. i have a lot of major electronics in my room and im not sure if the humidifier would interfere with them. also, if i get an air purifier i would like it to be one that you clean the filter because i cant afford to keep buying replacements. does it sacrifice quality to get one with a re-usable filter??
which one would you recommend?
have any other suggestions on what else i could do??
